City Concert Opera Orchestra

City Concert Opera Orchestra is a fully professional San Francisco-based period instrument ensemble dedicated to presenting opera in concert format focusing on rarely performed and unfamiliar works. In its short history, CCOO has developed a reputation for discovering and showcasing emerging vocal talent as well as presenting musically significant premieres such as the American premiere of Tomaso Albinoni’s l nascimento dell’Aurora in Summer, 2004. Other former productions have included operas by Gustav Holst and Handel. By eliminating the need for expensive stage crews, costumes, and sets, CCOO can present works that other companies cannot afford, and CCOO can present works in multiple Bay Area venues thus giving high-quality opera a wider audience. Future productions include the West Coast premiere of Udo Zimmermann’s Weisse Rose, Stravinsky’s Mavra, Boismotier’s Daphnis and Chloe, Handel’s Il Trionfo del Tempo, a Schubert and Haydn opera series, and the first digital recording of Paul Hindemith’s Long Christmas Dinner.
