What is the Global Citizen Fund?
The Global Citizen Fund (GCF) was established to support students from disadvantaged economic backgrounds to participate in global education exchanges. Our mission is to prepare high school and university students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds for global citizenship and leadership through cultural exchange, educational enrichment and professional development based on an international experience.
What is a Global Citizen?
A global citizen is a person who actively seeks to improve the general welfare of the international community.
- A global citizen understands the importance of learning about world cultures and languages.
- A global citizen is committed to using whatever knowledge, skills and talents they have to address current international issues. (global poverty, environmental conservation, , conflict resolution, political, economic, social development etc.)
- A global citizen stands firm for diversity, social justice, human rights, equity and empowerment for all while rejecting injustice of all kinds.
Why should I donate to the Fund?
Thousands of students travel abroad each year for study, teach, volunteer, and research opportunities. These students recognize the importance of expanding their understanding of the world. As our world becomes more interdependent both private and public organizations are recognizing the importance of a globally competent workforce and are actively seeking candidates with international experience.
The importance of global citizenship and the invaluable benefits afforded through global educational exchanges are more important now than ever. Unfortunately the cost of global education exchanges precludes students from disadvantaged economic backgrounds from taking advantage of global opportunities. These students are passionate, hard working and committed to fulfilling their duties as global citizens. They are aware of current global issues of poverty, environmental conservation, human rights abuses, conflict resolution and political empowerment and are ready to face the problems head on. By donating to the Global Citizen Fund you are investing not only in individual students, but in the entire global community.
How will the money be dispersed?
A selection panel will review all applications for GCF scholarships and grants. Awards in the amount of $1,000-$2,000 will be dispersed to all qualified applicants for semester and summer study abroad.
